Your Skin Feels Different. Here’s Why.
Menopause rewrote everything I thought I knew about my skin
Menopause rewrote everything I thought I knew about my skin
One of the lucky ones, I suppose. Genetics played its part, but so did expertise. Skincare was my business, literally. As an aesthetician, I knew what to use, how to use it, and when to tweak it.
The first time my skin turned on me? Pregnancy.
Oh, my word.
Breakouts. Dry patches. Hyperpigmentation that seemed to multiply by the hour. It was wild. But after I had my baby, everything slowly returned to balance. The skin I knew came back.
And then… menopause. That was different.
No one tells you what really happens, not just dryness or dullness, but skin that suddenly doesn’t respond to anything. Skin that feels unfamiliar, even to someone like me.
I had to unlearn everything I thought I knew and start again.
To listen more. To slow down. To stop trying to fix and start learning what my skin was asking for.
And most of all, I had to look around at what was on the shelves and realise none of it was made for women like me. Everything wanted to rewind the clock, but nothing wanted to honour the skin I was in.
That’s one of the reasons Roake exists. Because the changes we experience are not failures. They’re signals.
Hormones, stress, age, and life, all of it shows up on our skin. And when it does, your skincare should meet you where you are, not try to drag you backwards.
Oils that support your barrier.
Ceramides that cushion and calm.
Bioactives that speak your skin’s evolving language.
Mature skin isn’t a problem to solve.
It’s a new relationship to build. And it starts by understanding the shift and knowing you're not alone in it.
What have you noticed about your changing skin? I’d love to hear how you’re navigating this season.
